2016 Camps

North Ryedale Riding Club Junior Camp

Firstly, thanks must go to the Edwards family for the camp venue and their lovely hospitality throughout camp.
An awful lot of preparation went into making the venue just so and we are all very grateful for all of your hard work.
We were blessed with glorious weather for our 2 days, a little too hot at times but delightful nonetheless.

Monday evening we set up camp and everyone stuck in to get courses up and stables and sleeping arrangements
ready. Tuesday soon arrived and everybody got settled in, we had a lovely group of children that were all eager to
be on board. All groups dispersed and the instructors got to know their groups quickly.

By the end of the day everybody knew they had been out in the sun and they were blessed with a water slide
provided by Victoria. This provided great entertainment for all and a much needed cool down. Tuesday evening
we had a catering van for the evening meal and later in the evening we played a few games. Huge thanks to
the parents for joining in also, it was great fun!

This year we had 3 groups named Snaffle, Kimblewick and Pelham that were taught by Ann Sibsey, Phil Brown
and Penny Slinger. Each group had a great 2 days and everybody made huge improvements in some sorts.
There was a dress up your pony competition with some fabulous creative ideas judged by Sharon. Within
each group there were competitions on the second day and everybody received rosettes. This year our overall
junior camp trophy winner was Emily Grayson who particularly impressed and received the Beckett trophy
with a voucher presented by Sharon - well done Emily!

Huge thank you to everybody involved in the organising, our helpers on the days were fantastic and ensured
we were all well looked after. Our instructors provided fun, knowledge and great memories for all. Thank you
to Sharon for judging and presenting the trophy. Last but not least, thank you to all the children, parents
and ponies for being fabulous.

See you all next year!

North Ryedale Riding Club Adult Camp

Firstly, thanks must go to everybody involved in the whole event; it really was a huge team effort. The committee and
camp subcommittee, led by Louise our chair, must be thanked for the whole group support that goes on tirelessly
to ensure these events run. The helpers that helped throughout camp were smiley and supportive, whether it was
behind the scenes, half a day, a full day, or the whole weekend - thank you all so much!

Friday night began for some with a ride to the village pub; others took a de tour into the unknown, whilst some
remained in camp. Fish and chips were collected by star Brian and were delicious, despite a slight error,
in that we forgot the salt and vinegar - oops, I’m sure we’ll remember that one next year!

Saturday arrived and everybody dispersed into their groups, had a whale of a time and came back at lunch with
smiles galore. The pattern followed for the afternoon sessions, with some riders far exceeding any expectations
they had brought to camp on just day 1! Special thanks to the Equine Nutritionist Kathy Lawson, whom weighed
most of the camp horses, gave body scores, delivered a very informative presentation and answered many
questions. The evening BBQ was delicious with meat from the Ginger Pig. The lunch sharing items provided
by campers, which also double up as additions to the BBQ, were particularly scrumptious this year.

Sunday soon arrived and the stiffness set in for some riders, though everybody still set out with positivity and smiles
on board. Again at lunch there were lots of smiles and chatter about fabulous achievements and memories made
and the theme continued into the afternoon session. Upon return from the afternoon session it seems there had
been some stables fairies for some, which was very gratefully received - you know who you are fairies.

Camp finished up with a presentation and summary of achievements given by each instructor. Our camp trophy
winner this year was Caroline Ashworth whom had particularly impressed with her “can do” attitude and
positivity - well done Caroline!

Last but not least, we were very fortunate to have lovely instructors that worked extremely hard to support us;
by building confidence in ourselves and our horses and in turn helping us to achieve personal targets and
lasting memories. Thank you to everybody involved prior, during and after, your hard work, dedication and
attendance is much appreciated! What a lovely bunch of people we are fortunate enough to have
around us in our club. Thank you!!!!
